Summer Learning Journey 2018/19

At the end of every year we have a Summer Learning Journey programme running.

The Summer Learning Journey is a great way to stay smart or get even smarter over the holidays. Teachers have discovered that at the end of the year you are smart but over the holidays your knowledge drops and at the start of the next year you have to waist all that time getting back to that stage. By the time you have got to that stage it would be the end of the year and you would just keep repeating it over and over again.

You will complete tasks on their site and get points. There are bonus challenges that are worth 10 points. Some of the activities include Land, Sea and Air.

For a prize I would like one of those fancy coloring in books and a Warehouse Gift Voucher.

Pyramids of Giza

For literacy our focus is working on different styles of writing.
For our information report we had a choice between the pyramids
of Egypt or the extreme weather. The most challenging
thing for me was finding the facts.
The easiest thing was writing it down .

How To Brush Your Teeth

For Health we have been learning about keeping yourself clean. We watched a video. We had to create a slide of how to teach 5 year olds to brush their teeth. We had to tell the 5 year olds how long to brush your teeth and things like that. The hardest thing I found was coming up with the idea of doing it in the bathroom and creating characters. My next step is to make my slideshow easier to understand. Maybe next time I could make the bad guys talk and move around more.

Life Education

This week Harold the Giraffe came to us with his friends Amanda and Jo. We might have somebody else today. Our class talked about being a team and personalities. I think it's good that we all have different personalities because otherwise life would be SUPER boring. If we didn't think differently then nothing new would be invented like beds, chairs and tables. It was fun. I enjoyed it!

Would You Rather...

Lately we have been creating Would You Rather questions and putting the answer that you would choose and the reason why. Here is what I have done!

Activating Prior Knowledge For Narrative, Characters and Questions.

We are leaning to ask questions before, during and after reading to engage with the text and make inferences. Also to look deeper at characters to see how they develop and impact a story.

We have talked about Narratives, Characters and Questions and what our prior knowledge is for those topics.
NARRATIVES
I know that Narratives are FICTION stories and they can contain mythical creatures such as dragons or unicorns.
CHARACTERS
I know that Characters are the people or creatures in the story. They have a name and generally their own special personality. In most Narratives I know there are princesses and princes living in great big castle.
QUESTIONS
We have talked a lot about questions and what I know is that there are 2 different types of questions. "Right" there questions and "Think and search" questions. Right there questions are where the answer is in the text and think and search questions aren't in the text but basically the name of the question "Think and search" gives what it means away.
